Hospitalists

A hospitalist is a physician who specializes in the care and treatment of patients who are in the hospital. The hospitalist can assist in a smooth and speedy recovery by following up on tests and adjusting treatment plans throughout the day. The hospitalist is able to keep your primary physician, your family and you informed on a timely basis during your hospital stay.

In case of an emergency, the hospitalist is always available. Because hospitalists are in the hospital all day, they are able to devote more time to each patient and may see a patient more than once a day, if needed. With the hospitalist available, your primary care physician can care for you more efficiently in his or her office.

About our program:

Rapid City Regional HospitalOur program opened in 2004 and has experienced rapid growth. We currently have twelve Board Certified Internists.

Every morning the teams meet to discuss patients individually to ensure that all aspects of the patient's care are addressed. This gives every patient a comprehensive individualized plan of care and allows the physician to devote their time to what they do best - direct patient care. The Hospitalist program is working toward setting up a team approach to patient care. We have two Doctors of Pharmacy, a social worker, a Certified Nurse practitioner, and an RN coordinator that meet in morning report with the Hospitalists during the weekdays.

The Hospitalist Program offers an attractive compensation and benefits package with paid relocation expenses. The salary is very competitive with a CME stipend and tail insurance coverage. A straight salary allows our physicians to concentrate primarily on providing the best patient care possible. Our physicians enjoy a modified seven days on/seven days off schedule with a service "capped" at 17 patients per physician. The cap allows our teams to devote their time to each patient individually. The schedule also allows our physicians to dedicate the time needed for their own personal development.
