Hospitalists

A hospitalist is a physician who specializes in the care and treatment of patients who are in the hospital. The hospitalist can assist in a smooth and speedy recovery by following up on tests and adjusting treatment plans throughout the day. The hospitalist is able to keep your primary physician, your family and you informed on a timely basis during your hospital stay.

In case of an emergency, the hospitalist is always available. Because hospitalists are in the hospital all day, they are able to devote more time to each patient and may see a patient more than once a day, if needed. With the hospitalist available, your primary care physician can care for you more efficiently in his or her office.

Confidentiality of information pertaining to you is extremely important. Every patient has the absolute right to expect that all information concerning you be used only for treatment purposes and only by those directly concerned with patient care.

About our program:

Rapid City Regional HospitalThe Hospitalist Program at Rapid City Regional Hospital is set up with a team approach to patient care. Each team includes a Physician, Certified Nurse Practitioner, Case Manager, Social Worker and a Doctor of Pharmacy. Every morning the team meet to discuss each patient individually to ensure that all aspects of the patient's care are addressed. This gives every patient a comprehensive individualized plan of care and allows the physician to devote their time to what they do best - direct patient care. Our program opened in 2004 and has experienced rapid growth. We currently have eight Board Certified Internists and four Certified Nurse Practitioners.

The Hospitalist Program offers an attractive compensation and benefits package with paid relocation expenses. The salary is very competitive with a CME stipend and tail insurance coverage. A straight salary allows our physicians to concentrate solely on providing the best patient care possible. Our physicians enjoy a modified seven days on/seven days off schedule with a service "capped" at 15 patients per physician. The cap allows our teams to devote their time to each patient individually. The schedule also allows our physicians to dedicate the time needed for their own personal development.
